The Farmington High School baseball team is finishing its season with a stretch of home games. The Scorpions will need some wins to keep playing into the postseason. You're watching the Local News Network, brought to you by Home 2 Suites and Boon's family Thai Barbecue. I'm Connor Shrieve. Farmington High School enters the weekend with a chance to take on the state's top team, La Cueva. At 9-12, head Coach Kerry King believes his team has the ability to string some wins together.

There's easily seven games that we could go back and if things would've gone a little bit differently, could easily go from the loss column over into the win column. So that would definitely change kind of the outlook, the perspective, the tone of our season.

The Scorpions run deep at the pitching position, led by Eli Edmiston and JJ Oliver.

I could speak for some of us, and I feel like we're strong in that. They have, I think, a strong mindset going forward, hopefully wanting to get a victory.

Junior pitcher JJ Oliver says there's still time for the Scorpions to extend their season.

It's been all right, could definitely be a lot better. We've had some difficulties winning games, but I think we have a good team and I think we have lots of potential, and we just need to get it down.

King says finishing the season on a high note can help his team build for the future.

There's definitely some things to build off of. Going into the season, I knew we were going to be able to pitch it, just a little skeptical about whether or not we'd be able to score enough runs to win, but we've been in several games to where we've scored enough runs to win, but if we just cleaned some things up defensively, I think we'll be better, but with that being said, we've got five, five sophomores on varsity this year. So we're a young, inexperienced team, and they're getting their experience on the job.

King is trying to get his team bought in for this final push.

Yeah, I mean, unfortunately, that's the situation that we've been presented or that we're put in now, is we need to win out. The number one team in the state is coming to our place this coming weekend, so, ideally, you'd like to sweep at home. I think realistically, if we could earn a split, I think that that emboldens us.

After this weekend's home set, the Scorpions will host Grants and Piedra Vista to finish the season. For more information about this and other stories, visit farmingtonlocal.news. Thanks for watching this edition of the Local News Network. I'm Connor Shrieve.
