Fireworks banned at McGee Park

San Juan County has banned fireworks at McGee Park because the traditional Fourth of July celebrations have become too dangerous to insure. Independence Day revelers will have to make alternative plans or enjoy municipal fireworks shows in Farmington or Bloomfield. Also: San Juan Regional Medical Center honors its nurses, and the City of Farmington is hosting a community yard sale. By Ryan Simonovich. San Juan County Bans fireworks at McGee Park. San Juan Regional Medical Center honors four nurses for their excellence and the City of Farmington will host a community yard sale. Revelers no longer can set off fireworks at McGee Park. The tradition has taken place since 2016, but San Juan County says the event has become too crowded and dangerous. To ensure county officials saying last year's celebrations saw illegal parking, alcohol use, and violence. Municipal fireworks displays will take place on July 3rd in Farmington and July 5th in Bloomfield on July 4th. The Freedom Days Electric Light Parade will take place in downtown Farmington. Learn more about 4th of July celebrations on the Visit Farmington website. San Juan Regional Medical Center, honored four nurses with the Suzanne Smith Nursing Excellence Awards. The awards are named in honor of the hospital's former Chief Nursing Officer in recognition of Smith's mini contributions during her 38 year career, Leah Nigar won the early career award. Jessica Scott won the Excellence in Nursing Award. Brian Ander won the emerging Nurse Leader Award and Diana Cross won the Nurse Leader Award.
