Musicians in Farmington don't need to travel far to find a professional recording studio. Joey DeMartino is the founder of Noise Hub, a music and audio production studio in Farmington. He recently won $10,000 in Fort Lewis college's Hawk Tank Business Plan competition. He hopes to use the award to expand his business. You're watching Farmington Local News, brought to you by Northern Edge Casino and San Juan Regional Medical Center. I'm Ryan Simonovich. The soon-to-be San Juan college graduate began his audio career as a radio DJ where he learned to produce radio advertisements.

That kind of excelled into becoming a tour tech, going on the road and that invariably pushed me into other studios in various places. And no matter what in my life, I've been inundated with it and I've kind of kept it at bay for a while. Always doing production, always working with artists, more as a hobby than anything. An expensive one mind you, but definitely a hobby. And now, it's kind of, once this opportunity came up with Hawk Tank, it kind of excelled me to, you know what, let's go ahead and fine-tune this and let's make a business plan out of something that I am extremely passionate about.

DeMartino operates out of his home studio where he records music and does voiceover work. He said he hopes to use the Hawk Tank money to expand into a permanent location and into the community.

First and foremost is community collaboration. This company is built to help any creator that needs help with any sort of audio, whether it's something for a film or even a score for a film, fully sound effects and then of course, music and audio production. Pretty much on all the, clear across the board. We aim with the intention of being a affordable service, not anything that's going to break the bank, something that we would love to work with the community. And, you know, we're trying to embrace everybody to come in and actually work with us.

Hawk Tank is a business plan competition that began at Fort Lewis College 10 years ago. DeMartino won $5,000 in the first round against contestants at San Juan College, and then he won the grand prize of an additional $5,000 after competing against the winning team from Fort Lewis College. Participants work with mentors, build full business plans, and pitch their business ideas to a panel of judges at the final event. DeMartino will graduate this spring.

We've got an artist getting ready to come up. His name, his art's name's "I died in Paris." We're kind of working on his whole image and everything as far as what the packages we want to deliver to the public. He's actually getting ready to finish up his EP. I think it's a five-track EP, so what we're going to shoot for is late spring, early summer release and try to get some traction and motivation behind him and get some local shows in the four corners and try to get that hype going, you know, and accelerate that in the fall. Aside from that, I've got a couple voiceover gigs that I'm working on as well as, I think, I've got two or three bands that I'm going to ready to try to track and see if we can work out something that works for their vision.
