The total 25 acres, we have probably 30 apple trees, 60-year-old apple trees, probably the same for peaches. A lot of peach trees. We do carrots, tomatoes, kale, squash, radishes. We do some collard greens and lots of lettuce, lots and lots of lettuce.
The farm's nonprofit arm hopes to educate and empower the next generation of farmers. It practices regenerative agriculture to increase soil health and limit ecosystem impacts. For example, gathering's. Gardens does not use chemical pesticides or fertilizers.
We're trying to teach the next generation that like farming doesn't have to be like big ag. We really need to start taking better care of what we have. So even our watering is very, we're mindful of how we water the systems that we have in place. Monitor that, and then everything's solar.
Two San Juan College students are interns on the farm this summer and they help plant lettuce, pot tomatoes, pick weeds and spread fertilizer gatherings. Also works in the early childhood sector and said she hopes to establish farming education programs for children in the future.
That's why we got into it. We've got little humans and I feel like I'm equipping them with like a, a powerful skill and like how to grow food pretty powerful.
