San Juan County Commissioners reviewed the county's interim budget for fiscal year 2026. At a recent meeting, the county worked with Valiant Consulting Group who recommended hiring additional county employees and retaining strong cash reserves. The budget sets public safety recruitment and retainment of employees and strategic plan implementation as the year's priorities. The county plans to spend $23.4 million in capital expenditures in the next fiscal year. The commission will continue to review the budget and a finalized budget will be reviewed at its median in July. For information about the county budget, contact the county finance Department. San Juan County Fire and Rescue. Responded to a small brush fire near Hart Canyon on May 13th. The fire burned one and a half acres and did not reach any structures. The county has been under red flag warnings and fire officials have canceled burn permits because of hot and dry weather.
