Registration for the longest continuously-running mountain bike race is now open. If you plan to run for one of the open positions in San Juan County in the general election on November 7th, the final filing day is August 29th. And Fort Lewis College and the La Plata Economic Development Alliance have announced a new program, Project Run, designed to provide certifications for high-priority jobs. Registration for the 2023 Road Apple Rally Mountain Bike Race is now open. Began in 1981, the Road Apple Rally is the longest continuously-running mountain bike race in the US named for the road apples left by horses that the original bike riders had to dodge in the early years of the event. The race includes 15 and 30 mile loops in the Glad Run recreation area suitable for bikers of all levels. Join the fun with a full weekend of events October 6th through 7th. Road Apple Rally is also still looking for sponsors. Apply today, if you're interested. There are multiple positions open in San Juan County for the upcoming general election and it's not too late yet to file, if you're interested in seeking one of the open positions. From city councils to school boards, there are a variety of options depending on how you'd like to serve. In Aztec, open positions include City Commission members for districts one and three, a municipal judge and board seats for districts two, four and five. For Aztec municipal schools, Bloomfield has two open positions for City Council members and board seats one and three for Bloomfield School District. In Farmington, there is the mayoral race, a full-time municipal judge race, City Council districts three and four and OARD seats one, four and five for Farmington Municipal School District. The Central Consolidated School District has openings on board seats two, three, and five and the San Juan College Board of Trustees has seats for districts one and five open. Kirtland open positions include two town trustees. If you wish to file for any of these positions, you must do so by Tuesday, August 29th. You can file at San Juan County Clerk's Office between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm. Fort Lewis College and the La Plata Economic Development Alliance have announced a new partnership for a professional certification program. Project Rural Upskill Network, or Project Run, is aimed at bolstering the local workforce through micro certifications identified as a need in the community. Certifications will target the top requested jobs and positions in the Durango and La Plata County region, according to the regional task force analysis done by the Alliance between January, 2021 and October, 2022. Some of the occupations in the top 10 are positions such as registered nurses, administrative assistants, retail representatives, and more. Project Run received a $1.2 million seed grant through Opportunity Now Colorado. A program that funds innovative solutions to address Colorado's workforce needs.
