From faster access to healthcare to celebrating 125 years of community, Farmington has several major developments on the horizon. You're watching the Local News Network brought to you by Big Idea Makerspace at San Juan College and Durango Motor Company. I'm Paige Sparks. The city of Farmington is preparing to make a major milestone in 2026, celebrating 125 years since its founding in 1901. City officials have announced the launch of Farmington 1, 2, 5, a year long community celebration. We're joined by Gina in Topa to tell us more about what to expect.
2026 is a huge milestone year for our community. Farmington is celebrating it's 120 fifth birthday, I guess it's 125 years since we first incorporated in 1901. So we're just really excited to make the entire year a celebration of that milestone rather than focus on a single event. So we're, we have a lot of fun things planned and, and we have a lot of ways that we'd like to involve the community and other community events as part of this 1 25 celebration.
Any upcoming events the public should know about?
Funny you should ask, so we have a fun community calendar that we've created, which is available at several of our city facilities while supplies last. You can pick them up at city hall, at the library, at the rec center, Bonnie Dallas Senior Center. But we've preloaded this calendar with some of the fun events that are happening. As you can see, January is a little bit of a light month, but we do have some fun things coming up at the Civic Center. And February we have our, our Kids show for Heather McCoy. But I would say our first probably big event that we'll be incorporating, the 1 25 will be our daddy daughter ball that Sycamore Park hosts every year, and it's at the Civic Center, so stay tuned for some flags and signs and things like that as part of that event.
How can businesses and local organizations get involved?
We really want the community to own this 1 25 brand and own this 1 25 celebration as well. And so we have a form on our page where if you have a longstanding community event and you want to incorporate the branding, whether it be just by adding that logo to your event or we have some fun swag and signage and things like that, that we can make available for community events. There's a form on that page. Again, farmington nm.gov/ 1 25 and businesses, organizations, community partners can go, they can fill it out. Let us know a little bit about the event that they have coming up and if we have materials available, we'd love to, to share those and make those available to our, our community partners as well.
Thank you so much, Gina. We've really appreciated you. Joining us today, Farmington city manager, Rob Mays will retire on June 30th, 2026. Deputy City Manager, Shauna Reeves is expected to be appointed as the next city manager at the January 20 City Council meeting pending ratification.
