San Juan County Fire and Rescue receives a national recognition for its Septic Safe San Juan program, now in its second year, aiming to prevent child drowning and near-drowning in septic tanks. Four San Juan County high school softball players were named to the New Mexico High School Coaches Association First and Second-Team All-State team rosters. Aztec summer schedule is full with the Beat the Heat art submissions opening at Feat of Clay and the EQUUS Aztec 4 Corners Film and Arts Fest at the end of July. San Juan County Fire and Rescue received an award from the National Association of Counties Achievement Award Program in recognition of the Septic Safe San Juan program. The educational program is in its second year, aiming to educate people about the dangers of unsecured septic tanks and to eliminate child drowning and near-drowning in tanks. The program is spearheaded by Fire Chief, David Feba, and Division Chief, Shay Aurnhammer. NACo's Achievement Awards recognized the outstanding programming among 18 categories that align with the types of comprehensive services that counties provide their communities. The award is San Juan County's 14th since 2006. The EQUUS Film and Arts Fest hosts domestic and international equestrian content, feature films, documentaries, shorts, and more, aim to bring a greater awareness and understanding of the relationships between horses and humans. The event will include films, Q&As with filmmakers, an equine art and literary fest, Mustangs and New Mexico panels, a silent auction, and more. Four San Juan County high school softball players were named to the First and Second All-State team rosters by the New Mexico High School Coaches Association. Piedra Vista players Brookelynn Cadrain and Landry Bales were named to the Class 5A Second-Team roster, Farmington High's Jadyn Jones was named to the Class 5A First-Team roster, and Aztec High School's Kamora Henry was named to the Class 4A Second-Team roster.
