The program, part of the enriched ed classroom grant program, has committed $20,000 in grants to New Mexico public and charter schools ranging from $500 to $2,500. Teachers from Esperanza Elementary School, Country Club Elementary School, Heights Middle School and Bloomfield High School have all received grants in the past. The money was used for various projects, including a voice amplification system, STEM programs, an online reading program, greenhouse construction and solar technology. Grant applications can range from books, technology, equipment, school supplies and more that can enrich and enhance classroom experiences. Applications can be found online and are due by September 17th. The forecast is hot for October 7th with a return of Chili in October Fest. The event, which will feature amateur and professional restaurant chili makers, will pit chilis against each other. Cash prize will be awarded for People's Choice and Judge's Choice in red, green, and chef's choice and there is a 500 cash prize for the overall best chili of 2023, courtesy of the Chili Pot. Vendor space are still available for $125 or free, if you are cooking some chili. Find more information at the Chamber of Commerce. Wines of the San Juan invite you to enjoy music in the shade this September. Every Sunday this month, enjoy music from a variety of bands and local wines under the shade of cottonwood trees at the winery. Close out the summer responsibly from four to 7:00 PM.
